This article is a step-by-step tutorial on how to create a live-streaming configuration for an external platform, and how to start streaming your session or webinar using that platform.
How to add a live stream configuration:

Setting up a permanent stream URL and Key
If you want to set up a permanent stream, here is what you need to do:
- Go to your Sessions profile (bottom left corner).
- Go to Account settings.
- Go to Session settings.
- From the upper right corner, select which template you want to edit. You can (only) choose between Instant session, Planned session, or Event template*. This will determine which type of session/event your live-streaming setting will apply. *You cannot livestream a booked or a room session. Therefore, the Live stream tab is not accessible for the Booking template and Room template.
- Go to the Live streaming tab.
- Add a name for your configuration.
- Add the Stream URL and the Stream key (optional). Based on your streaming platform, you need to access the advanced settings to get these.
- Click Save template.
- From now on, whenever you’re starting the session/event you’ve selected at step no. 4 will automatically contain the settings for the live stream.
- The last step is to start the live stream once the session or event is live.
Check the steps above explaining how to get them from popular streaming options. You can add any streaming platform from which you can get the Stream URL and key.
How to start streaming during a live session or event
- Add your live stream configuration (see steps above).
- When the time comes, start your session or event.
- Click on the Live streaming button that’s next to the Recording button.
- Click Start live streaming.
- Check the box if you want to record and live stream simultaneously.
- Confirm.
What you need to know about live streaming in Sessions:
- When you initiate streaming from Sessions, depending on the platform, an additional step might be necessary: accessing the streaming platform directly to commence the live stream. This requirement varies. For example, Twitch and YouTube automatically begin the stream upon receiving the video feed. Despite Sessions relaying your video to the selected platform(s), it doesn't automatically initiate streaming across these platforms.
- If you’ve configured multiple streaming options, Sessions will send the streaming video feed to all platforms. If you want to stream only on one platform, you need to remove the configuration for the ones where you don’t want to stream.
- Sessions accommodates integrations with any streaming service that provides a Stream URL (RTMP URL) and, optionally, a Stream Key. This flexibility means you can choose any platform that provides this, not just the examples mentioned.
- Any configurations made during a session or event (from the lobby or while live), are saved only for that specific session or event. If you want a permanent setting, you need to add in Account settings → Session settings.
